Two Voyeurs
Inside outside, leave me alone
Inside outside, nowhere is home
Inside outside, where have I been?
Out of my brain on the five fifteen

Do people work late anymore? Are businesses moving out of the Loop? Those questions come to mind when walking slowly from Union Station to the River North neighborhood along the river walk lining the Chicago River on its western bank. Over the course of 30 to 40 minutes, I watched wave after wave of office workers head to Union Station and the Ogilvie Transportation Center, which are just blocks apart. Each day, tens of thousands of Loop workers arrive for work and head home from those two train stations. The pedestrian flow is so dense that it is almost impossible to exit Union Station. All escalators run downward to the platforms, and the stairways are filled with blurs and backpacks moving in the same direction. I was definitely moving against the tide.

No one in the mass of humanity stops—even for an instant—to notice the light, shadows or warm color temperature. Too bad for them.
