The Money Shot

During the four days preceding Donald J. Trump’s military parade celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday and his 79th birthday, I spent considerable time walking the streets of Washington, D.C. (when I was not on Capitol Hill advocating for Ukraine). Assuming the role of street photographer, I captured demonstrations, press conferences and other First Amendment activity. Here are my thoughts about and images of the many delights I encountered.

Ukrainian Days

During the week of June 10, 2025, I was in Washington, D.C. taking part in an advocacy campaign on behalf of Ukraine. We met with House and Senate members, as well as their staffs. The week’s highlight was having the opportunity to watch a screening of Bernard-Henri Lévy’s new documentary, Our War. Here are my thoughts about and images from what was referred to as Ukrainian Days.

Existential Fight, Part II

At the suggestion of a Chicago’s Ukrainian Community leader, I traveled to Washington, D.C. to cover four days of events surrounding the third anniversary of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. On Monday and Tuesday I headed to Capitol Hill with the group as they lobbied senators and House members on behalf of Ukraine. Here are my thoughts about and images from Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Existential Fight, Part I

At the suggestion of a high-ranking member of Chicago’s Ukrainian Community, I traveled to Washington, D.C. to cover four days of events surrounding the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. On Saturday, I attended the rally at the Lincoln Memorial, and then the demonstration in front of the Russian Ambassador’s residence. On Sunday, I attended a reception at Ukrainian House, and then witnessed the candlelight vigil in front of the Russian Embassy. In a subsequent post, I will discuss Monday and Tuesday’s lobbying effort.
