All in New York City
Signs are everywhere in New York City, taking many forms. Collectively, the signage reveals our collective consciousness. On this trip, the signage brought together Halloween and the Presidential election, which complemented each other. One produced anxiety, while the other reduced it. Here are my thoughts about the signs and images from daily walks.
Once again, I was on 6th Avenue in New York City’s Greenwich Village for the annual Village Halloween Parade, where over one million spectators and participants joined me, everyone of us seeking a brief respite from the two-year lead-up to next Tuesday’s presidential election. Last week I made the pilgrimage to Columbia University, which is the epicenter of pro-Palestinian student protests. Here are my thoughts about and images from the two days I spent on campus and in the surrounding streets.
On February 10, 2024, I attended what appeared to be a rather anodyne pro-Palestinian demonstration in Brooklyn. I left for about half an hour. When I returned, I encountered a number of demonstrators who had been detained by the police.

While I was in New York last week, Matthew Perry (aka Chandler Bing) died. While photographing the Halloween decorations in the West Village, I also visited the intersection of Bedford and Grove streets, the location of the building where the six friends resided and frolicked.
