Today was marathon day in Chicago. For the first time in over a decade, I took to the race course with cameras in hand. Here are my thoughts about and images from a truly memorable event.
Today, I heard the summer’s first sizzle, as the heat engulfed my exposed skin. Here are some images, together with my thoughts about Chicago’s first wonderful day of the year.
Today, Jack B. Siegel made his second pilgrimage to the Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin. The Chicago Wise Guys were the feature attraction, bringing colorful cars, crews, carts, tools, and trailers for a day of nitro racing. The roar of the engines were ever present, at times deafening. These guys know how to haul ass down the quarter-mile track, sometimes reaching speeds close to or exceeding 200 miles per hour.
I headed up to Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin today to checkout the races and the surrounding scene.
I headed to the ballpark yesterday for the Cub’s opener. Here are a few images with my thoughts. Covid-19 has left its indelible imprint on everything.
I decided to ride the “L” today with my new Sony RX 100vii point and shoot camera. When I got home, I had a lot of junk—as I expected—and some gems.

Today was the start of the Chicago Yacht Club's 109th Race to Mackinac, a 333-mile sprint from Chicago to Mackinac Island in Michigan. The race begins with a parade of boats past the east end of Navy Pier. More than 300 boats pass by, most with sails down. Then the boats head through the breakwater to the start line. The starts are staggered.

The Lincoln Park Boat Club held the 37th Annual Sprints Regatta on July 7 through the 9th in the lagoon that seperates Lincoln Park from Lake Shore Drive. I was in Maine at a photography workshop during the week, but managed to make it back for Sunday's finals. The event features 1,000-meter, side-by-side, Henley style racing. I don't have this year's numbers, but last year, over 1,000 athletes participated, with 27 clubs from 10 states in the chase for victory.
