Backlit

Last time I was in Paris, I went back to Père Lachaise Cemetery located in the 20th arrondissement three times.  The cemetery is huge, with several layers of terraces.  The light can dance between the graves and the monuments, casting wonderful shadow, but today I had to deal with afternoon winter light.  Fortunately, the sun was visible, which presented wonderful backlight.  I love the colors against the washed out sky, with a natural gradient from top to bottom.  If only it had snowed, but maybe next time.

Today I concentrated my efforts in one quarter of the cemetery for 3.5 hours.  Never made it to Oscar Wilde's or Edith Piaf's monuments.  Nor was able to help a nice lady find Chopin's grave.  I did run into Collette.  I also ran into one of the victims of the terrorist attack last year November at the Bataclan.

Evelyn went shopping, coming home with a dozen gorgeous socks from Mes Chaussettes Rouges, 9 Rue Cesar Franck-75015, Paris France

Every gravestone, monument, family chapel, and grave market provided the living with the opportunity to express their grief and honor the deceased.
